Adoption Is Truly A Blessing To All Involved

At the age of 9, I was adopted.  I will eventually share my entire story with you, however, I kind of want to begin with the end in mind.  Currently I am 46 years old, married and have 3 children.  To look at me now, you would never think I went through some of the tough circumstances I did due to me being displaced as a child.  I am very happy with my life and have the normal ups and downs that life brings when finding your way on this path, "The Path of Life".  Hey, that's a title all within itself, but I am not writing this blog to talk about the path of life, I am going to share with you my path on the road to adoption.

Again, I am going to start somewhat at the end before I go to the beginning.  I was nine and had just been picked up by my new adopting parents.  I couldn't wait to get to my new home, they seemed so nice and I was ready to be happy once again.  I had not been happy for a long time.  When we drove up to the house, the yard was nicely groomed and the house was a normal middle class style home.  This family had 5 boys and no girls.  Yep! I would be the only girl, I was already loving my new family.  As we pulled in the drive-way, the youngest son was looking through the glass screen door.  I think they were more excited about me becoming apart of the family than I was.  This made it truly a warm connection.  As I entered the house all five of the boys were there and had been cleaning and making the house ready for my arrival.  Again, I felt special.  There was a cake for me and food but I remember telling them that I wasn't hungry.  I was just too excited about my new home.  I wanted to see my new room and yes, because I would be the only girl, I had my own room.  As I walked up the stairs, I became even more excited and as I entered the room that would be mine, I noticed all the girly decorations.

My mom's best friend had bought new cloths for me and my mom had them laid on the bed for me to see.  She even had me try them on.  I later learned that this was her way of playing dress-up and of course I didn't mind.  I love receiving new clothes.  There was a lot that took place on this day, but the thing that stood out the most was a picture of a Raggedy-Ann Doll with the words "This Is The First Day of The Rest of Your Life".  Man, I thought to myself, "my life will never be the same", and it wasn't.

If you are about to adopt or already have, know that you changed that child's life for eternity.
